Hvordan sikrer man, at plast til fødevarekontakt overholder lovgivningen?
Katrine Nørrelund, konsulent, Eurofins Product Testing A/S

Are Urea and Melamin getting a come-back as construction materials?
Göran Johansson, Operations Manager, Bi-Qem
Produced from Urea- or Melamine-formaldehyde resins and highly refined alpha cellulose, these moulding compounds create scratch resistant lustrous mouldings, highly resistant to detergents, oils and greases with excellent electrical properties including tracking resistance and arc quenching. Produced from environmentall friendly raw material components with self-extinguishing flame resistant characteristic without the use of flame retardants and organic solvents, they are perfect for a wide range of products such as: Electrical wiring and circuit protection devices, sanitary ware and household appliances where colour, cosmetic appearance and durability for every day handling are crucial.
Göran Johansson holds a MSc in mechanical engineering from Lund University. He is Vice President of R&D and QHSE at the BI-QEM group.

Johnny Bjarnholt-Olsen, Sales Manager, Biesterfeld Nordic DK

Green flame retardent: What it takes to go halogenfree
Amit Paul, Magaging Director, Paxymer AB
Halogenated flame retardants have set the standard in the plastics industry since its beginning. Studies have shown lately that bromine/chlorine have adverse effects e.g.: more toxic smoke, no improvement to fire spread/combustability and persistent and toxic characteristics. As a response, a new generation of halogen-free flame retardants have emerged. Although they have a better environmental and health performance, their implementation requires a new approach. Especially in order to handle mechanical properties, price, and processing properties.
Amit Paul is the Managing Director of Paxymer since 2010. The company has developed one of the most promising novel technologies for boosting halogen-free flame retardants. Amit Paul is also the vice-chairman of the Swedish Plastics Industry association (SPIF). Amit Paul has also given workshops in green entrepreneurship and implementation of green technology in collaboration with UNEP financed initiatives. Amit has a Master from Stockholm School of Economics and worked as a management consultant at Bain and Co. before joining Paxymer.

Compounding - custom plastics for your application
Daniel Sander, Application Engineer, A. Schulman
New products and challenging applications demand more and more complex materials. Compounding can offer innovative solutions for engineered plastics. For developing tailored compounds, innovative technologies and the know-how for processing is prerequisite. In addition, understanding applications is mandatory for choosing the right material, filler, color and reinforcement for the formulation. Finally, a deep understanding of the interaction of machinery, processing and formulation lead to the compound that fits best to the corresponding application.
Daniel Sander has been working in the application engineering department for engineered plastics at A. Schulman since June 2016 . A. Schulman is a leading international supplier of high-performance plastic compounds, composites and resins, which are used in a variety of markets.

Crystalline Polystyrene – a quite unusual high performance plastic
Hans-Heiner Bittrich, Technical Service & Marketing Manager, Idemitsu Chemicals Europe PLC
Syndiotactic Polystyrene, under the name of XAREC crystalline polymer, entered the market in 1997 and has since then been trying to find its position in the highly competive world of engineering polymer.
XAREC withstands temperatures up to 270°C, is fully compatible with the EU food conatc law, does not absorb water, has excellent chemical resistance, oustanding dimensional stability and good insulation properties.
It is easy to process and – compared to typical high performance plastics – quite cheap.
The presentations will provide a deeper insight into the technical features of XAREC, applications and limitations.
Hans-Heiner Bittrich is a chemist and responsible for XAREC & polycarbonate market development in Europe. He has been working in technical marketing of engineering polymers for Idemitsu since 1993.
